New Year's greetings from FNDB-President
As we have recently entered a new year, we face many challenges in Norway. The main tasks for FNDB is to offer its members contact information, support , to have equal right in the society, we have different courses and events that give them the opportunity to meet others, get new information and to have fun. So each year, we have a summer conference, with different activities and courses. Last summer conference we had peer gatherings, moutain-hiking and social and organizational knowledge course. That we will continue in the new year.
In addition, the parent department also continue with their work. They have several courses and meetings on the program.
FNDB's deafblind contact clubs run a business of a social nature. All together we have 7 regional clubs in Norway. They are an important meeting place where deafblind can come in contact with other deaf-blind and people they can communicate with. In this way we help many deafblind to break out of their solitude.
FNDB's editorial office had a rather difficult year in 2011. Yet they managed to keep the production of the daily newspaper and weekly magazine almost as scheduled. In addition, we received two numbers of our members' magazine, "FNDB's Information Sheet".
For FNDB, the Nordic, European and international deafblind work is very important. The more we work together across national borders, the easier it is to gain support for deafblind demands for greater equality in the Norwegian society.
On a daily basis, FNDB works to ensure that the authorities give deafblind as good a life as possible. We get many calls from members about various issues, and follow these up with local and national authorities to the best of our ability. Unfortunately, many of the issues we work on are very labor intensive. Therefore, it often takes some time for our work to produce results.
For The Norwegian Association of the Deafblind to be able to do its work well, we need money. On behalf of FNDB I want to thank the funding authorities for the money we got last year - and the endowments that supported individual initiatives.
We give our thanks to the deaf associations in the other Nordic countries, EDBU, WFDB, EBU, A2G Graphic AS, our partners in the SAFO and all other organisations we have worked with over the past year. We also thank all our interpreters, attendants and other essential workers and friends.
Happy New Year to you all! Thank you for everything we had together in the past year. We look forward to continuing our work together in 2012.
Best regards
Geir Jensen
President, FNDB
